In 1970, concerned with the mischaracterization of Brazilian culture, the writer and playwright Ariano Suassuna gathered around him a group of artists from various areas, named Movimento Armorial. The objective was daring, in the master's challenging and provocative style: to create an erudite art based on the most authentic and traditional artistic and cultural popular expressions in the Northeast and other regions of the country.
This search for Brazilian roots: Iberian, indigenous and African, which characterized the work of the Movimento Armorial, demonstrates the pioneering spirit of Ariano, who, fifty years ago, discussed agendas that are now considered innovative, presented in a forceful way, but always fun, filled with the magical spirit from Cordel.
The Armorial 50 show, presented with great success in Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília, Campina Grande, Recife, Salvador, Natal, now arriving in Fortaleza, celebrates this eclectic, multiple and fantastic universe of the Movimento Armorial, leading the visitor to an unique experience. A light, colorful and thoughtful show, which is now back in its homeland.
By constantly encouraging projects in the areas of performing arts, music, audiovisual and multiple expressions, Petrobras puts into practice its belief that culture is a transforming and driving force in society. Rarely, however, does a single project encompass all these fields, as is the case with the Armorial 50 event. A cultural trail without borders, uniting the black and white of the woodcuts, the multicolor of the popular festivals, the fabulous stories of the Romanceiro do Nordeste, the sound of the singers and the choreographies of the dances.
A performance-lesson about the best in our country – the Brazilian people!
