CABOCLO DE LANÇA
Including acrobatics, jumping and juggling, the caboclo de lança, is the most important symbol of the maracatu de baque solto, also known as the rural maracatu. The costume worn is a wig made of cellophane paper strips, with red and yellow being the predominant colors, a colored scarf covering the forehead, pants, a floral shirt and canvas shoes. Completing this exotic figure, the caboclo de lança has his face painted with urucum, wears dark mirrored glasses, and holds a carnation between his teeth.
The high point of this attire is the collar that is richly embroidered with glass beads and sequins, a true work of art that the caboclos are very proud of. It is worn over the surrão, a kind of bag decorated with bells and rattles that makes a loud and primitive noise that gives this character a very special touch.
