Music

On October 18, 1970, with a concert by the Orquestra Armorial de Câmara, and an exhibition of etchings, paintings and sculptures, the Movimento Armorial was officially launched. The event was held at the São Pedro dos Clérigos baroque church, in the Santo Antonio neighborhood, in Recife, and was promoted by the Cultural Extension Department of the Federal University of Pernambuco. In Ariano Suassuna’s view, the Armorial style of music would recover the baroque melodies of popular romantic songs, strumming guitars and folksingers’ fiddles, as well as the cowboy calls. The orchestra, very successfully, traveled with him to Rio, São Paulo and Porto Alegre.

As from 1976, he began to work independently, recording compositions by Benny Wolkoff, Henrique Annes, Clovis Pereira, Cussy de Almeida, Jarbas Maciel and Capiba, among others, until 1994. Formed in 1972, the Quinteto Armorial pursued the objective of integrating the erudite and the popular, obtaining special national and international repercussion. He worked on this until 1980, having recorded four LPs. Antônio José Madureira, José Tavares de Amorim, Antonio Nóbrega, Edison Eulálio, Fernando Torres Barbosa, Egildo Vieira and Fernando Farias were members of this group.
