In the mid-1980s, Ariano Suassuna wrote the first notes to the Romance de Dom Pantero no Palco dos Pecadores, which would be published posthumously in 2017. A self-declared perfectionist, he made many changes until it reached its final form . It is impossible to quantify the episodes and scenes cut and added, the names of characters changed, parts entirely rewritten or simply discarded. The author left thousands of handwritten pages, such as the ones presented here, with excerpts of texts and images, photocopied and pasted, in a relentless search for the best result.
