Popular culture celebration

Atualizado: 6 de mai. de 2023

The Movimento Armorial 50 Anos Exhibition gathers and unveils the magical universe of Ariano Suassuna. It is an invitation to celebrate visual arts, dance, literature and theater. I am doubly happy to have organized, together with such special partners, an exhibition of this scope, and, after its first successful tour in the country, bring it to Paraíba and Pernambuco.

This is also an opportunity to rediscover my black and northeastern origins that are intrinsically connected to popular culture.

The challenge of (re)creating, with beauty and power, the artistic encounters of the Movimento Armroial was accepted by art curator Denise Mattar, my friend and teacher, with whom I have worked for two decades and who undertook the curatorship of this beautiful Armorial 50 show.

When I first got to know Ariano's house in person, I was overwhelmed by his strong presence. The doors of Ilumiara “A Coroada” were opened by Manuel Dantas Suassuna, which enabled encounters with history and memory through researcher Carlos Newton Júnior and designer Ricardo Gouveia de Melo.

An idea that was embraced by professionals across Brazil: from Rio de Janeiro, Marcela Sá. In São Paulo, Guilherme Isnard, Flavia Rossette, Ana Lucas, Celeste Bartolleti, Felipe Barros de Brito and Jhony Arai. In Recife, Marcelle Farias, Capibaribe's advisory and Maria Paula C. Rego. Producers Celso Rabetti and Edson Jr, respectively in Florianópolis and Belo Horizonte.

I invite the public to sharpen their senses and to participate in this immersion of joy, color, and sounds of popular culture. And to celebrate the gifts that life offers us from these encounters.
