ARMORIAL TODAY AND ALWAYS

In 1995, at the invitation of Governor Miguel Arraes, Ariano Suassuna once again assumed the Secretariat of Culture of Pernambuco, initiating the third phase of the Movimento Armorial, that would be called the Arraial phase, whose name is a tribute to Canudos. This is the period of the Performance-Lessons, that contain explanations regarding Brazilian popular and erudite culture, and the exhibition of musical and dance numbers.
In these Performance-Lessons, Maria Paula Costa Rêgo, Romero de Andrade Lima and Manuel Dantas Suassuna played a wide role. Adaptations of his plays for television and cinema also followed, with extraordinary success. Thus, although Armorial no longer exists as a movement today, its aesthetics still resonate, with influences that can be seen in theater, dance, cinema and television, in authors such as João Falcão, directors such as Guel Arraes and Luiz Fernando Carvalho, and actors like Antonio Nobrega.
