In the decade of 1980 the Internacional Palace Hotel, one of the first five-star hotels in the city, was inaugurated in Recife. Acácio Gil Borsoi, an architect from Rio de Janeiro, working in the Northeast, since the 1960s, disseminating the principles of modern architecture and inspiring generations of architects, was responsible for the Project. With him was Janete Costa, from Pernambuco, an architect, designer and art curator, and one of the greatest enthusiasts of Brazilian popular art. Together, they decided to create, inside the hotel, a place to exhibit Brazilian art, choosing works by artists such as Burle Marx and Bruno Giorgi, among others. Invited to participate in this project, Ariano Suassuna produced paintings inspired on his iluminogravuras. The three works that are shown here blend elements from the most memorable episodes of the series Dez sonetos com mote alheio: Acauhan, Infância and A Viagem.
